I don't hear you!

Brian (my husband) and Kaitlin (my niece) were playing Candy Land yesterday. Here is the conversation that went down in my living room yesterday:

Brian: OK, Kaitlin, you need to put your game away.

Kaitlin: NO!

Brian: Kaitlin. The rule is you put your toys away when you are finished with them. So, put your game away.

Kaitlin: I don't hear you!!

Brian: Excuse me??

Kaitlin: I SAID, I HEARD YOU!

Brian: That's right you heard me! Now, put your game away, or you will not be allowed to play with it.

Kaitlin: FINE!

Can I just skip this stage with Emily? I don't want to hear my child talk to me like this. Have any of y'all gone through this stage with your children? If so, what did you do to handle it?

  1. Hi Brittni,
I found you from the d-list. Your blog is great!

I don't know what to do about the attitude, I have a 4 yr old nephew that has started acting like this too...everything is "whatever" and "I don't care". I usually do the same thing your hubs did, I say "excuse me, I don't think I heard you correctly do you want to repeat that?" and he shakes his head "no" then I tell him it's not nice to talk that way to people and he needs to apologize and he usually does.

My baby is only 4 months though so I have a while until he starts acting unruly.
